Getting Started With Orthodontic Treatment
Once you have had your consultation with Dr. Cloth, he will communicate with you or your general dentist to ensure that all dental treatment has been completed prior to the placement of braces. Patients who have not seen their general dentist routinely, or who do not have a general dentist, will not receive braces treatment until we can verify that the oral health is adequate for braces to be placed. Only your dentist can provide this information to us. Patients should visit the dentist every 6 months for a thorough examination and cleaning during orthodontic treatment to check for cavities and to provide professional cleanings. Before each orthodontic appointment, patients are encouraged to brush their teeth.
Your appointments are scheduled to fit your busy lifestyle. Our staff makes every effort to accommodate each patient’s schedule. In order to help us continue to schedule efficiently, a 24 hour notice is required to cancel an orthodontic appointment.
A typical braces treatment will require adjustments every 4 to 6 weeks over a 24-month time period, although treatment time can vary from 18 to 36 months depending on your individual case. Your cooperation in keeping scheduled orthodontic appointments, maintaining proper hygiene and taking care of your braces may allow you to finish your orthodontic treatment on time.
We encourage patients to ask questions about their orthodontic treatment. At a patient’s first visit, Dr. Cloth will inform patients and/or parents about important treatment details. Throughout treatment, you will receive both oral and written updates periodically to keep you up to date on how the treatment is progressing.
